Everyone in Waimea and beyond is heralding the reopening of Tako Taco, one of the best Mexican restaurants on the island. Housed in a small, brightly painted hut, Tako Taco feels more like a mainland burrito joint than an island Mexican food restaurant, and its authentic food makes it hugely popular with both locals, who line up for to-go orders, and visitors who snag one of the plastic booths and eat in. With a focus on fresh ingredients, Tako Taco whips up awesome tacos, burritos, Mexican salads, enchiladas, rellenos, and seriously ono (Hawaiian slang for "tasty") quesadillas fresh to order. The tomatillo pineapple salsa is the bee's knees, and they're also now serving top-shelf margaritas, both classic and flavored—strawberry, mango, or lilikoi (passion fruit)—along with local beers and wine.
