Kalaekilohana Review

You wouldn't really expect to find a top-notch bed-and-breakfast in Kau, but just up the road from South Point, this grand yellow residence offers large, comfortable private suites with beautiful, locally harvested hardwood floors, private lanai with ocean and mountain views, and big, comfy beds decked out with high-thread-count sheets and fluffy down comforters. Choose between a full hot breakfast or a Continental breakfast of locally sourced fruits and baked goods—both come with plenty of award-winning local Kau estate coffee. For those who want to explore the area's green- and black-sand beaches, or hike the south side of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (the south entrance is less than 2 mi away), hosts Kenny Joyce and Kilohana Domingo are happy to share their knowledge of the area. The bed-and-breakfast prides itself on its programs and work surrounding Hawaiian cultural arts, and guests are welcome to take part in lei-making workshops and other lessons in traditional Hawaiian handicrafts. Complimentary wine and beverages are served each evening.
