Merriman's Farm Visits and Dinner

Fodor's Review:

Hawaii Forest and Trail operates this half-day tour, which is one of the best ways to delve into the Big Island's burgeoning food scene. Chef Peter Merriman, the godfather of Hawaii regional cuisine, put together the itinerary. It includes visits to Kahua Ranch where all of the top chefs buy their pork and beef and to Honopua Farms, a top organic produce farm. Honopua Farms is also home to lei maker and native Hawaiian Marie McDonald, who was named a "living treasure" by the Smithsonian Institution. After touring the farms, the group returns to Merriman's Restaurant in Waimea for a gourmet four-course meal comprised of various farm-fresh items.

  • Cost: $155, including dinner
  • Open: Mon.-Thurs., from 2:30-7:30
