In the heart of cowboy country, this modest ranch house-style lodge offers views of the green, rolling slopes of Mauna Kea. It's so quiet you forget you're close to busy Waimea. The rooms are large and clean, with Hawaiian quilts lending an authentic touch. A Continental breakfast is included in the rate, and you can charge meals at Merriman's and Paniolo Country Inn to your room. A handful of studios with kitchenettes are also available, and there are plenty of grocery stores in Waimea to stock up on provisions for the week. Pros: affordable, large rooms equipped with kitchenettes; charge meals to your room at one of the island's best restaurants (Merriman's). Cons: rooms could use some updating, no pool.
