Fodor's Review

On a bluff above Honolii surf beach, this modern 5,400-square-foot home is 2 miles from downtown Hilo and features four rooms—each with patio, deluxe bedding, and grand ocean views within earshot of the surf. Fresh flowers and artful decor add a warm, tropical touch. Proprietors Maria Macias and Ricardo Zepeda serve a full hot breakfast every morning on an outdoor deck or in the kitchen's bay-window dining area. From their lanai, guests can watch spinner dolphins or

migrating whales during whale season. These are ideal accommodations for honeymooners and retired travelers.

Pleasant Place to Stay in Hilo

Now the Hale Kai Hawaii. The new owners, Maria and Ricardo, are busy putting their own personal touches on this friendly B&B. Incredible gourmet breakfasts! Moana room has comfortable bed with oversized pillows. Room view allowed us to see spectacular sunrises, passing whales and active surfers. Host/hostess were helpful and hospitable. Highly recommend.

Grandma's house

Wonderful people, great view. Like staying in your Grandma's basement, it's clean, friendly and a little hand me down. The patios are side by side and definitely not private as your fellow guests have to walk through you patio to get to their rooms.
