Waianuhea defines Hawaiian country elegance. Fully self-contained, this gorgeous country home sits in a forested area on the Hamakua Coast. The four guest rooms and large suite have tasteful color schemes and lavish furnishings, complete with extra pillows, fluffy down comforters, and soaking tubs, and there is contemporary artwork throughout. The large common room with its stunning ocean views and lava-rock fireplace is a big attraction, especially at the wine tasting and hors doeuvres hour each evening. Stroll the flower garden and fruit orchards. The house has solar-electric power. Pros: eco-friendly hotel, hot and healthy breakfast, beautiful views. Cons: very remote location, unreliable phone and Internet access.

My husband and I stayed here in February of 2008. Every aspect of this retreat sold us on coming back here again when we head back to the island. We were able to walk the grounds and had unlimited access to the open concept home. Our breakfast was exceptional and fresh! What topped it for us was the exceptional massage we had recieved which we booked prior to our coming. I only wish our masseuse lived closer. Overall our stay was memorable and the host as well as owner and chef were all wonderful to talk with, which is why anyone really stays at a bed and breakfast isn't it? Only drawback-We booked the smallest room not realizing how small it really was-4 suitcases were a tight fit with the queen sized bed but staying in our room wasn't a priority for us we liked socializing. It was perfect for our last night on the island!!
