Nestled amid the avocado, mango, and kukui trees of a plantation estate, this serene inn provides a retreat close to the Waipio Valley. Jacqueline Horne has given each room its own character with, for example, rare Chinese antiques or patchwork quilts. A sprawling garden has an orchid-covered deck and a little gazebo has hammocks to help you indulge your lazy side. Many of the rooms have ocean views and some also have skylights. Breakfast includes fresh fruit from the estate, locally grown coffee, granola, yogurt, and muffins. Pros: close to Waipio, authentic Hawaiian feel, hammocks with views. Cons: remote location, no hot breakfast.
