Privacy and simplicity are the star attractions on this 10,000-acre island with 7 mi of undisturbed beachfront and this rustic 1917 lodge and five cottages with capacity for only 32 guests. The Cedar House and Helen House are the better accommodations. A stay here is all-inclusive: you get three meals a day, use of all equipment and facilities, and drinks at cocktail hour. On staff are five full-time naturalists who lead interprative tours. Wildlife sightings change depending
on the seasons; during May and June it's possible to watch protected loggerhead sea turtles building their nests and laying their eggs on the beach. Meals, taken family-style, feature platters heaped with fresh fish and homemade breads and pies. Transportation from the Hampton River Marina at the north end of St. Simons Island is also part of the package.
