The Wallow Lodge Review

A stay at this historic inn at Hog Hammock offers a chance to experience the island's distinct Geechee culture. Owner Cornelia Walker Bailey's memoir of life growing up Geechee on Sapelo, God, Dr. Buzzard, and the Bolito Man, has made her a folk hero and focused awareness on the disappearing communities of descendants of African slaves. Each room is decorated with furniture and memorabilia from residents of the island. Cotton chenille, a tradition on Sapelo, and quilted spreads cover the beds.
