Savannah and Hilton Head share an airport, which is not really in either place. There are plenty of taxis waiting outside the baggage claim area, and some of the larger hotels offer shuttles. If the flights into Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport aren't convenient, consider Jacksonville International Airport. The drive time to Savannah is just shy of two and a half hours. Jacksonville has the added bonus of low-cost carriers like Southwest, which don't fly into Savannah. Sometimes the price difference can almost pay for the car rental. Additionally, approaching Savannah from the south gives you an opportunity to stop at Jekyll Island and other treasures of southeastern Georgia.

Since there are no airport shuttles other than those operated by hotels, most visitors not renting a car take taxis to reach their hotels. The going rate for the approximately 11-mile trip to the Historic District is $28. Savannah Limousine Service offers executive sedans starting at around $75 per hour, and can also arrange vans for groups to the Historic District starting around $25 per person. Another option for transporting groups into Savannah, Old Savannah Tours has larger vehicles that can be chartered.
