This well-appointed restaurant is well known to locals and travelers alike for its contemporary cuisine. The original tin ceilings are a burnished gold, the bar and its fixtures are opulent, and the circular maple tables have leather booth seats. Renowned for their well-priced Italian classics, the kitchen also sends out some much more ambitious offerings, albeit at slightly higher prices. There are such unforgettable appetizers as lamb ribs, slow-cooked with a sweet ginger sauce and pear-cabbage relish, or a salad with poached pear, arugula, walnuts, and goat-cheese fritters with a port-wine vinaigrette. The crispy flounder entrée is the stuff of local legend; the full fish presentation drizzled with apricot and shallot sauce is incredible.
