Soho South Cafe
Soho South Cafe Review
Chef/owner Bonnie Retsas lived 25 years in New York prior to "retiring" here and opening up this small restaurant. This long brick building had been an art gallery (local art, both good and amateurish, still hangs), though it still looks like the mechanic's garage that it once was. There is often a line for lunch and for Sunday brunch, though reservations are accepted now. The tables and chairs are a mismatch of Formica, wood, and enamel from the 1940s to '60s. The strength of Bonnie's food is that it is consistent and it tastes so homemade. Try the meat-loaf sandwich with Russian dressing or flavorful quiches. Soups like the signature tomato-basil bisque are the perfect accompaniment for the grilled cheese on sourdough with pimento aioli. Some more contemporary choices are offered now like the sandwiches of grilled portobello mushrooms or vegetables with roasted peppers and pesto mayo; a special might be organic chicken potpie. Only wine and beer are sold (only after noon on Sundays).

landingsbabe, from Savannah
Okay, this place looks like a mish mosh of all kinds of things, they have art, books, patio tables inside, a small bar that is kinda out of place....it's a strange place! The food is pretty good...I had the chicken pot pie and it was delish! Other times I've gone and they were out of nearly everything. FOr the money, it's not a bad place for lunch. I wouldn't take a date there for dinner though! Never had their bakery...cant find it in there!!! Check it out.
