Factors Walk

Factors Walk Review

A network of iron crosswalks connects Bay Street with the multistory buildings that rise up from the river level, and iron stairways descend from Bay Street to Factors Walk. The area was originally the center of commerce for cotton brokers, who walked between and above the lower cotton warehouses. Cobblestone ramps lead pedestrians down to River Street. These are serious cobblestones, so wear comfortable shoes. Also be aware that pedicabs cannot ride over these cobblestones.

Essentially an uninviting, claustrophobic alley located between River Street and Bay Street and running parallel to them, crisscrossed by a series of metal footbridges. Very uneven and sometimes steep street area of cobblestones that invites an ankle turning. Definitely not worth the trouble.

I loved Factor's Walk. It was very old and hard to get around because of the cobblestones but it is full of the history of Georgia and the first Georgians to live there. I found it very interesting even with all the gift shops and bars that are there now.

Primarily a collection of t-shirt and cheap souvenir shops. Too bad that the city's river frontage hasn't been put to better use!
