Hotel Indigo

201 W. Bay St., Savannah, Georgia, 31401, United States, Savannah, Georgia, USA

Why We Like It

If you’re looking for an artsy pad to sample the local nightlife from, the Hotel Indigo is just a short stroll from the action. The building adeptly combines historic charm with hip luxury aesthetics.

Fodor's Expert Review

Ideally nestled between the hustle-bustle of Bay Street and the quaint shops and patios of City Market, the 252-room Hotel Indigo stares down the competing Andaz Hotel with an electric intensity. The hotel houses its posh nightclub-like radiance in the iconic Guckenheimer building, which is blessed with high ceilings, gorgeous natural light, and cool exposed brick; management spared no expense in the recent remodeling. This is one of the few boutique hotels in town that allows pets, but it doesn’t mar their pristine aesthetic.

Tip Unless the hotel is at capacity, a small upgrade fee will get you a room with almost twice the square footage.

Room

Room decor, like the linens, combines minimal crispness with soothing textures and palettes. Besides floor-to-ceiling windows, each room features a one-of-a-kind mural by a Savannah artist, and suites feature sliding barn doors reminiscent of an artist’s loft.

Tip Suites have sofa sleepers for extra guests.

Bathroom

The Indigo touts their “spa-like” bathrooms, and we have to agree: with hydrotherapeutic double-headed showers and aromatherapeutic Aveda toiletries, the experience is indulgent and refreshing.

Lobby

The lobby impresses guests immediately with its lovely bones and tasteful decor: ponderous wooden beams punctuate an airy expanse of gallery-like fixtures and modern furnishings.

Dining

Five Oaks Taproom is a locally sourced dining and drinking experience. Expect to discover heady Georgia-brewed beers and farm-to-table southern delicacies with creative twists.

Getting Around

While staying here, visitors are deep in the heart of the Downtown Historic District, so it's most enjoyable to park the car for as long as possible and walk, bike, pedicab, or take a trolley tour.

Restaurants

There's often a brunch-time line outside of Goose Feathers Cafe (3-minute walk), but if you have the time their quiches and locally named sandwiches are well worth the wait. For imaginative and delicious Asian fusion, including great sushi, Co (3-minute walk) is the place to dine in downtown Savannah. If you can nab a reservation at The Grey (7-minute walk), don't hesitate. The award-winning art deco eatery, housed in a former Greyhound station, is one of Savannah's true culinary gems.

Bars

Lulu's Chocolate Bar (5-minute walk) will satisfy your sweet tooth with a bevy of sugary cocktails, tarts, and pies. The Jinx (3-minute walk) is one of Savannah's few true rock venues; if you're looking for cheap drinks and cutting-edge sound, hit up a show.
