Best Outdoor Activities in Savannah
Baseball. A baseball game under a summer sky is an all-American pleasure. It is a family-bonding opportunity, and, happily, ticket prices for the Savannah Sand Gnats (a New York Mets farm-system affiliate) start at just $7. Buy a hot dog and join in the fun. On Friday nights kids get to run the bases after the game, and on Saturday nights there are fireworks, so you can double your fun for the cost of admission.
Golf. The weather here, particularly in the spring and fall, is custom ordered for a round or two of golf. Though the courses aren't as well regarded as those on Hilton Head, players looking for a challenge can count on gems like the Westin's Club at Savannah Harbor and the Wilmington Island Club, both of which are more moderately priced than the Hilton Head courses.
Spas. For travelers in search of more relaxation than running around, a soothing spa treatment may fit the bill, whether it's at one of the big hotel spas, such as the Marriott's Magnolia Day Spa, or one of Savannah's independent retreats, such as Savannah Day Spa.
Walking. Walking is a perfect low-impact activity wherever you stay in Savannah because there is very little change in elevation—the steepest climb you'll face is up the stairs from River Street to Bay Street. The best part: a simple walk through the Historic District is a sightseeing adventure as well as a fitness routine. Scenic Forsyth Park is a favorite spot for local walkers. This is a true walking city, and locals love to hoof it, too.
Water Sports. Water sports are the obvious choice for a city surrounded by rivers, creeks, marshes, and the Atlantic Ocean. Kayaking, fishing, sailing, and parasailing are all popular, and there are plenty of options for guided tours, charter boats, and equipment rental (if you haven't brought your own).
