The steaks are cut fresh daily and cooked over an oak fire in this barn of a restaurant that has been serving St. Simons for 50 years. Though there's room for 200 people, it feels just like family with the checkered tablecloths and the big open fireplace. There's also fresh local seafood. The pies are homemade. And there's music next door at Ziggy Mahoney's Thursday through Saturday until 2 AM.

We probably goto Bennie's at least once or twice per month, to always give it another try. Not sure what's happened but the quality of steak has really gone down hill. I generally get the NY Strip, Med - Pittsburgh and the last few visits, I have had to send it back for a bit more flame. Service has always been wonderful and during the colder months, the huge fireplace warms the restaurant up quite nicely and adds to the atmosphere. Make sure to have a Raccoon after dinner, my wife loves that drink.

The front desk clerk at our hotel recommended Bennie's Red Barn. She made us reservations and when we arrived, we were seated immediately. The food was ok, but it didn't meet our expectations. The food at Red Lobster is better...and I don't like Red Lobster. The service was ok...we most likely won't eat there again.
