Why We Like It

The Midtown location is a major plus for this hotel that's slightly dated and lacking in a key amenities like a restaurant that serves three meals a day. The pool deck and Bliss Spa are a nice plus though, and if you're the type that likes to stay at a hotel where there's always something social going on, the Living Room lobby bar area will be the perfect place to mix and mingle.

Fodor's Expert Review

A trip to this trendy hotel in Midtown feels less like Atlanta and more like New York City, with slick details and more black-suited security guards and velvet ropes than seem necessary. The rooms feature exquisitely comfortable beds, and the staff is generally helpful. There's also an in-house Bliss Spa and locally sourced Southern dining at the Trace restaurant.

Room

There are 466 guest rooms and the standard Wonderful Room is available in double, queen double and king configurations, featuring the signature W bed with pillowtop mattress, goose down comforter and W Pillow Menu upon request. Additional amenities include a music docking station, complimentary Wi-Fi, full desk and working station and a Munchie Box of in-room snacks.

Bathroom

Bathrooms have unique, stenciled designs on the walls, shower/tub combos, W bathrobes and Bliss Spa lemon + sage bath products.

Lobby

The lobby at the W Midtown is purposely non-traditional but is frankly, confusing, mainly because the majority of the space is a funky and colorful lobby bar referred to as the Living Room. Although it can be a fun place to enjoy a cocktail, listen to music or play a board game with friends, all of the activity can be a hassle when you're simply trying to check in.

Tip This hotel is more party-friendly than family-friendly, which is mainly in line with the W brand but something to keep in mind. Along those lines, there are taco and tequila flights on Tuesdays (4 - 11 pm), as well as local resident DJs on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 pm until 2 am. Both events are popular among the local residents.

Pool

The Wet Deck pool area is chic with white pool chairs and white umbrellas. There are four private cabanas available for rental, where you can enjoy light bites and signature cocktails. The Wet Deck is open from May to the end of October.

Spa

Bliss Spa offers that similar quirky vibe that's typical to the W brand, with results-oriented spa treatments that are tailored to both beauty and hangover cures. Find massages, facials, microdermabrasion, waxes, body scrubs, body firming treatments and nail care. Hotel guests receive priority for last-minute reservations.

You Should Know There's a $25 fee, even for hotel guests to utilize the steam room and sauna within Bliss Spa, without the purchase of a spa treatment. Also, the level of service at this hotel has been inconsistent, with guests reporting long waits for valet service, in-room dining, room service requests and dinner in onsite restaurants.

Gym

The 24-hour FIT center offers a wide range of equipment but the workout space is a bit tight. There are huge mirrors on one side of the gym so you can keep an eye on your form, and if you'd prefer professional help, the hotel's Whatever/Whenever program will connect you with a personal trainer.

Dining

TRACE is the hotel's sole restaurant and it only serves breakfast, albeit with a hearty menu. Options include building your own omelet, French toast, shrimp and grits and a full breakfast buffet. JAVA is a morning coffee shop with homemade pastries, as well as savory bites on Fridays from 2-6 pm. Your only other options for food beyond the breakfast hours are at the Wet Deck and Happy Hour, Taco Tuesday and Late Night bites in the W Living Room lobby bar.

Drinking

The main watering hole at the W Atlanta Midtown is the Living Room right in the center of the hotel. It's a popular spot, especially for happy hour from 4-6 pm where they offer $8 cocktail specials and half-priced appetizers.
