Midtown Atlanta—north of Downtown and south of Buckhead—has earned its own place in the Atlanta landscape. Four-miles square, its skyline of gleaming office towers rivals that of Downtown. The renovated mansions and bungalows in its residential section have made it a city showcase. The newly expanded Woodruff Arts Center, the nation's largest performing- and visual-arts center, is here, as are 25 other arts and cultural venues. Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden are also here. The neighborhood is the hub for the city's sizeable gay community.
