Atlanta: Places to Explore

Midtown and Westside

Midtown Atlanta—north of Downtown and south of Buckhead—has earned its own place in the Atlanta landscape. Four miles square, the area has a skyline of gleaming office towers that rivals Downtown's. The renovated mansions and bungalows in its residential section have made it a city showcase. The newly expanded Woodruff Arts Center, the nation's largest performing- and visual-arts center, is here, as are 25 other arts and cultural venues. Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden are also here. The neighborhood is the hub for the city's sizable gay community.

The Westside, formerly considered a part of Midtown, has earned its own identity. Here you'll find some of the city's best and most sophisticated restaurants, including high-end Bacchanalia.
