Fodor's Expert Review Tom Sawyer Island
Tom Sawyer Island is a playground of hills, trees, rocks, and shrubs. Most attractions are on the main island, where your raft docks. The Mystery Mine is like a secret passageway to exploration. Children love Injun Joe's Cave, where there are lots of columns and crevices from which to jump out and startle siblings. As you explore the shoreline on the dirt paths, watch out for the barrel bridge—the whole contraption bounces at every step.
On the other island is Fort Langhorn, a log fortress from which you can fire air guns with great booms and cracks at the passing Liberty Belle riverboat. For people with disabilities: With its stairs, bridges, inclines, and narrow caves, this attraction isn't negotiable by those using a wheelchair. Get away from the crowds here. Watch toddlers closely, as it's easy to lose track of them.
