Fort Wilderness Resort Cabins

This 700-acre campground is a resort in itself. With its dozens of entertainment options—including biking, outdoor movies, and singing around the campfire—and the very popular Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review character event, a family can have a truly memorable vacation. The campground is so big that you may want to rent a golf cart (about $45 a day) or a bike ($22 a day). There's a shuttle bus system, but it's about 20 minutes between departures. The larger cabins can accommodate four grown-ups and two youngsters; the bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed, and the living room has a double sleeper sofa or Murphy bed. Each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, and daily housekeeping is provided. Pros : cabins don't constitute roughing it (they have air-conditioning); you can save a fortune by cooking, but you don't have to, thanks to the three-meals-a-day restaurant and nightly barbecue. Cons : shuttle to Disney theme parks is free, but slow; coin-op laundry is pricey ($2 to wash, $2 to dry).
