Why We Like It

This property is quiet, as it sits amid trees and a lake, off busy I-Drive, while still being convenient to the theme parks and to the nightlife, dining, and entertainment on I-Drive. This no-frills property is perfect for travelers who would rather spend more time and money at the parks or having fun, and not on lodging.

Fodor's Expert Review

Set back from traffic on the south end of International Drive, this three-story condo hotel (with elevators) offers a good deal for a family or a group. Suites have separate bedrooms, flat-screen TVs, and well-equipped kitchens. For those interested in improving their golf game, a Nick Faldo Golf Institute is just across International Drive, and SeaWorld is only a few blocks away. The I-Drive Trolley passes the front door. Each of the one- and two-bedroom suites have a full kitchen (with a dishwasher) plus a patio or balcony with lake and palm-tree views. A free Continental breakfast is served daily.

Tip While this resort does charge a daily resort fee, it is very modest, and covers Wi-Fi, shuttles to theme parks and coffee fixings.

Room

Spacious suites feature beach-themed colors and décor, eat-in dining area, well-equipped kitchen with full-sized fridge, microwave, dishwasher, but no oven, Wi-Fi, and a sitting area with a flat-screen TV. Some have a second TV in the bedroom. Coin-operated washers and dryers make for convenient packing, even for a two-week stay.

You Should Know As this is a condo-hotel, some of the properties are privately owned. The decor in some of the accommodations can be a little dated, but all are clean.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a marble vanity separated from the standard toilet and shower/tub area, a boon to a family trying to get ready for a day at the theme park.

Lobby

Marble-topped wood paneled desks greet you as you enter the relatively plain lobby, more a place to check in than to socialize.

You Should Know The lobby convenience store is handy for last-minute items, but a Publix supermarket a few blocks south on I-Drive offers a huge variety of quality groceries and produce, and might be a better choice for stocking up.

Pool

A smallish, heated pool, a Jacuzzi, and a kiddie pool offer a place to cool off and relax. A playground lets the kids blow off some steam.

You Should Know Lounge chairs are sparse, and there are no umbrellas.

Gym

The small fitness center contains one treadmill, one elliptical and one stationary bike. But it is open 24 hours a day.

Dining

The Calypso Bar and Grill serves a complimentary continental buffet breakfast each morning, with some hot items. Lunch and dinner are also available.

Drinking

The Calypso Bar and Grill has a full bar, with drinks specials during happy hour. The bar has TVs for watching games, along with a pool table.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The resort offers a complimentary shuttle to Disney, Universal Studios and Sea World. In addition, the I-Ride Trolley runs along International Drive and provides quick and easy transport to a wide choice of shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment. To explore further, you'll need the independence of a car (the complimentary shuttles are often crowded, sometimes late and can eat into your theme park schedule) or a ride-share service or taxi.

Restaurants

In Regency Village (5-minute drive south on I-Drive) you'll find some chain restaurants such as Subway and McDonald's if the kids just want a quick bite; Outback Steakhouse and Sushiology serve up more interesting fare. Pointe Orlando (10-minute drive north on I-Drive) is home to more upscale dining opportunities: The OceanAir Seafood Room, where seafood is king; Capital Grille, a classic chop and steakhouse; and the atmospheric Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar. Farther along I-Drive, The Boston Lobster Feast (12-minute drive) is exactly what its name implies, an all you can eat seafood feast, including lobster. Look for the giant, red lobster consuming a small car. Shake Shack (15-minute drive) is a popular American burger spot. I-Drive offers dozens of chain eateries serving everything from burgers to pizza to tacos to American home-style comfort food.

Bars

Pointe Orlando (10-minute drive) and the whole of International Drive offer more choices of drinking establishment than could be visited in a week. Two bars cater to those who seriously want to chill out: minus5° Ice Experience, with coat rentals to stave off frostbite, and ICEBAR Orlando, which has a warm room next door for dancing. The Pub Orlando is a pleasant, British-style spot, where staff wear kilts and you can pour your own beer. Farther along I-Drive, you'll encounter endless opportunities to lift a pint or sip a tequila or more. One quite vibrant spot is Mango's Tropical Cafe (15-minute drive) a multi-story nightclub, with spectacular shows, dance floors, and multiple bars, where attractive male and female mixologists put on a show while shaking your tropical treats.
