Why We Like It

Sports-minded families love this resort, with its on-site golf, water activities and playing fields, and its proximity to ESPN's Wide World of Sports at Disney World. The roomy suites and villas lodge the whole family in comfort; the restaurants and eateries offer ample variety even if you are staying for a week.

Fodor's Expert Review

This huge, Mediterranean-style, award-winning resort lies in remote countryside six miles south of Disney, and a 45-minute drive to LEGOLAND. It includes a 1,200-acre golf club with two Greg Norman–designed courses, a David Leadbetter Academy and a sports field complex. Accommodations include rooms, suites and golf-side villas. With an 110,000-square-foot conference center, the resort attracts the corporate and meeting crowd, in addition to families who love the lazy-river-style pool and excellent children's programs. A free shuttle (well, sort of free; it's part of the daily resort fee) delivers you around the vast property and to Disney. It's not far from the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at the south end of Disney World, thus is often filled with amateur athletes from around the world.

You Should Know The resort charges a daily resort fee of $25, and a daily parking fee of $20.

Room

Tastefully decorated in shades of yellow and grey, the rooms offer two queen beds or a king sized bed with deluxe linens, and most have a balcony with a view over the vast golf courses that surround the property. A desk and ergonomic chair make your life more comfortable if you have to work while on vacation. The rooms also contain a flat-screen TV, some storage drawers, and an armchair. Rooms in the Sunset Lodge and Suites section of the property are decorated in a spare, modern style, and some have multiple bedrooms and kitchenettes.

Bathroom

Standard bathrooms contain a single-sink vanity, with plenty of space for toiletries, either a tub/shower combination, or a separate tub and glass-enclosed shower, and WC. There is no separation between the WC/shower and the vanity area, limiting privacy if more than one person chooses to use either of the areas. Ample Omni signature bath amenities are supplied.

Lobby

A colonnade of substantial white columns leads you through the main lobby, where a long rank of reception desks lines one side, and living-room-style seating areas on the other. A separate check in area is located in the Sunset Lodge & Suites, where the concierge desk is open 24/7 for arrivals, departures and guest assistance; another separate reception desk for the Villas closes at 11 p.m.

You Should Know Because this resort is popular with conventions, the lobby is often crowded with large groups of people checking in or checking out, sometimes causing delays in getting to your room.

Pool

Water activities are almost as popular as golf at this resort. An 850-foot-long lazy river, with waterspouts, a waterfall, rapids, tunnels, and hidden canyons, entices you to hop on a tube and float the day away. The resort's wave pool offers inner tubes and child-sized life jackets. The formal outdoor heated swimming pool is surrounded by private cabanas, ample lounge chairs and umbrellas. The whole family will enjoy the zero-entry family pool with a 125-foot slide and water playground, and the kids pool, where water slides are wide enough for two to slide together. Towels are provided.

Spa

The Mokara Spa offers 10 treatment rooms, separate dressing and relaxation areas, a wide menu of massages, facials and body wraps, and hair and nail services at the salon. Lush robes and slippers are provided.

Gym

The substantial fitness center is open 24 hours a day and features Cybex weight training and cardio equipment. In addition, a network of paths are available for jogging or walking outdoors.

Dining

Several on-site restaurants offer a nice range of choices, which is fortunate, as there is very little else nearby. Zen serves Chinese cuisine, sake and sushi, while Trevi's offers traditional Italian food family style, seasoned with herbs from the garden. Morsel's pours a mean cup of Peets coffee starting at 6 a.m., along with pastries and snacks. David's Club is the place for appetizers, premium steaks, Florida seafood and classic cocktails, along with a 90-inch video wall for game watching. Piper’s Grille at the International Course serves breakfast and lunch.

Drinking

David's Club offers beer, wine and a full cocktail menu in a sports-club atmosphere. ChampionsGate Lounge observes a traditional bagpipe salute and toast to the setting sun. Trevi's Terrazza invites you to enjoy a full bar and light menu al fresco.

Golf

This vast resort offers two Greg Norman–designed 18-hole championship courses, which underwent a complete restoration of greens and bunkers in 2016. The International Course is similar in design to the links-style playing found in Britain, and the National Course is built in a more American style. Champions 9, a lighted nine-hole par-3 course, invites players to improve their games. For family enjoyment, Crane's Adventure Golf offers 18 holes of miniature golf fun. If you are serious about improving your game, the resort is home to a David Leadbetter academy.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Parking at the resort, whether valet or self-parking, incurs a steep daily fee, but the resort is quite remote, making a car a necessity if you want the independence of coming and going when you please. A complimentary shuttle carries guests to any spot in the resort, whether it be the pools, the golf courses, the Leadbetter Academy or elsewhere within the confines of the resort. A scheduled shuttle takes you to Epcot and the Magic Kingdom Transportation Center, where you can catch buses to other Walt Disney World parks or attractions.

Restaurants

There is little close by that could be considered a neighborhood, as this resort sits amid acres of golf courses. The nearest places to eat outside the Omni itself are at the Reunion Resort (14-minute drive) where Eleven serves a chef-driven menu on the 11th floor of the Reunion Grande Resort, and Forte, an Italian bistro, offers Tuscan inspired dishes.

Bars

If you feel compelled to leave the Omni in seach of a different watering hole, Reunion Resort (14-minute drive) is the closest spot.
