Fodor's Review

Music rules in this California Mission–style building, where guests can pretend they are rock stars as their hotel key card lets them skip the lines at Universal and grants early park admission. Walls are rich with rock memorabilia, from an Elvis jump suit to Madonna's "Like a Prayer" costume to Elton John's boots. Rooms were fully renovated in 2014 and have deluxe bed linens, an entertainment center with flat-panel TV, CD player and MP3 docking station and rock'n'roll artwork.

You can't do better

Spent 08/06/08 to 08/11/08 at this property and dare anyone to do better than staying here if going to Universal. It is the closest thing to being in the middle of everything and at the same time can find your own spot away from everything when need be. Service and personnel are top notch, had not problems with service or facilities. Would be nice if they would put a microwave in the rooms but then you would spend less money on what they sell.

It is not the most economical place to stay, but if you are going to Universal/Islands of Adventure then the Express Pass option more than makes up for what you spend on the room, PERIOD!!! My wife and I and two kids 13 years old, did not wait more than 20 minutes for any ride and this was in August! Most of the wait times were 75 to 90 minutes long! The pool is the best, large, not crowded and a great bar/cafe at the pool. We will be back again soon!

Hard Times at the Hard Rock

We made our reservation several months ahead of time (a suite and a connecting garden room) and called the day of arrival to confirm once again. When we arrived, we were told our confirmed rooms were not available -- and wouldn't be for any of the 7 nights we were staying. So, the first night we were put into very small connecting rooms and then moved to a suite and another room (not connecting) for the rest of the nights. We did receive free breakfast

the next day and a 50% room rate discount on our first night....not exactly adequate compensation for the aggravation. With three small childen, not having connecting rooms is a huge problem and practically ruined our vacation. It was constant chaos trying to remember which key worked in which room -- not to mention someone had to sit in the dark with the kids while they slept. Also, the bellman was horrible when we arrived. He tried to jam all our bags onto a single cart, even though they obviously wouldn't fit. He hung the car seats by their straps from the top of the cart and watched them crash to the ground. (which any parent knows can crack the seat and make it unsafe.) He crushed computer cases and suitcases...it was ridiculous. I finally went over and asked him to stop ruining our things and use two carts. Our rooms were not serviced by housekeeping at least three times, sometimes despite several calls for service. As someone else mentioned, the hallways were filled day and night with housekeeping carts, piles of bedding, etc. The rooms are nothing special and the bathrooms are small. On the plus side, the pool is nice and the kids buffet and play area in the Kitchen was great. It was also nice to have laundry facilities and the proximity to the parks was nice (and the only reason to even consider staying here). Overall, for around $800 per night for both rooms it was a huge disapointment.

Great potential - poor management

This hotel has a lot to offer, its too bad the management, particulary the housekeeping staff, ruins it. The grounds, rooms, and decor of the hotel are great. It's ruined by dirty laundry and garbage bags sitting in the hallways for hours on end. Every night of our stay, we had to navigate past piles of bedding, rollaway beds, bags of garbage from the rooms and service carts lining the hallway. This wasn't at 9am, it was nightly even until 9pm or

later. There were occassions where our room wasn't made and it was almost 7pm !! The housekeeping staff and management don't get it. When we called to complain about our room not being done, we were met with promises of a call back by a manager and the maid coming back to the room to explain that she had too many rooms to clean and she couldn't understand why were were upset. Paying over $200 a night for that type of service is ridiculous.
