The Spanish surrealist certainly had a different way of viewing our world, as evidenced by exhibits at the Salvador Dalí Museum, which holds the world's most comprehensive collection of his work. The mind-expanding paintings in this downtown headliner include Eggs on a Plate Without a Plate, The Hallucinogenic Toreador, and more than 90 other oils. You'll also discover more than 2,000 additional works including watercolors, drawings, sculptures, photographs, and objets d'art. Free hour-long tours are led by well-informed docents. How did the collection end up here? A rich industrialist and friend of Dalí's, Ohio magnate A. Reynolds Morse, was looking for a museum site after his huge collection began to overflow his mansion. The people of St. Petersburg vied admirably for the collection, and the museum was established here as a result.

Without doubt the best museum in the Tampa-St. Pete area. Excellent collection of Dali's paintings with several essential works. Contains many excellent lesser known pieces, and the collection as a whole gives an excellent overview of the artist's career. A must.
