The menu is as lively as the entertainment at one of Tampa's more popular restaurant-nightclub combos. Southern vittles are the house specialty—they're reminiscent of Sunday dinner at one of our aunts' houses. The Brunswick stew (chicken mingling with butter beans and veggies in tomato broth) is close to perfection. The meat loaf comes under creamy ham gravy, and the obligatory country-fried steak does not disappoint. Sides include corn bread, cheese grits, black-eyed peas, and collard greens. Decorated in flea market chic, Stumps takes food quite seriously. Friday and Saturday nights after 9 you'll bump into Jimmy James & the Velvet Explosion, a six-piece band that relives Elvis, ABBA, Motown, and KC & the Sunshine Band.
