On the shore of Kings Bay, this two-story plantation-style resort is on 232 acres near nature preserves and rivers. Although the resort's exterior looks like that of a huge Southern mansion, the rooms are more comfortable than palatial, with blond-wood furniture and wall-to-wall carpeting. Some rooms have patios. Condos and villas have views of the golf course. The Plantation is popular among upscale, older yuppies. Pros: good location; perfect for nature lovers. Cons: stuffy vibe; basic rooms.

I stayed at the Plantation Inn in Feb and had a blast with the Manatees. I plan on going back this summer to play golf. The rooms I was in had been renovated and was very nice for the incredibly low price I paid.

We stayed here in February to see the Manatees. The hotel is being renovated and the wing we were in had new rooms. It was very nice. The rooms were big and comfortable. Best of all, the hotel had a manatee tour company right on property and we got to see a lot of Manatees. It was an unforgettable experience. Of all the places we saw while we were there, this is hands down the best.
