Fodor's Review

While the waters here can make bass anglers weep, the real find are the half-dozen temple mounds (and one possible burial mound), the largest of which is nearly 300 feet square at its base and 35 feet high. Inside these mounds, archaeologists have found pre-Columbian artifacts including jewelry, copper breastplates, and cloaks. Also on the site are the ruins of an early-19th-century plantation built by Colonel Robert Butler, adjutant to General Andrew Jackson during the siege of New Orleans.
