Fodor's Review

On 21 acres bordering a tidal lagoon teeming with wildlife, the conservancy finished a massive makeover of its facilities in 2013. Kids of all ages now enjoy the new Dalton Discovery Center, with interactive exhibits on six Florida ecosystems, a sea turtle tank, and other live wildlife exhibits with roughly 150 animals, including a saltwater touch tank. The opening of the wildlife hospital tripled the space of the old one, complete with a new viewing area where you can see staff working on any number of animals. Guided walks through an endangered gopher tortoise preserve and electric boat tours (for ages two and older) on the mangrove-bordered Gordon River depart several times daily. Kayaks are available for rent. The electric boat tours are free, and you don't have to pay the admission fee for the center to ride.
