Bubble Room
Bubble Room Review
This lively, kitschy visitors' favorite is fun for families and nostalgic types with fat wallets. Servers wear scout uniforms and funny headgear. Electric trains circle overhead, glossies of Hollywood stars past and present line the walls, and glass tabletops showcase old-time toys. There's so much going on that you might not notice your food is not quite as happening, and somehow that's okay. After grazing your basket of cheesy bubble bread and sweet, yeasty sticky buns, go for slow-cooked prime rib or shrimp sautéed in spicy tequila garlic butter. The homemade triple-layer cakes, delivered in hefty wedges, are outstanding, and the gooey orange crunch cake is a signature favorite. Be prepared to wait for a table in season.

All restaurants on Captiva are expensive, but the Bubble Room is by and far the worst of the lot.
The food is just plain bad. Your choice of stale rice and beans or microwaved stuffed frozen style potato, served with mediocre main dish - minimum $20 (pasta), average more like $26.
The 'famous' bread isn't good - its just baseless calories - greesey bread slathered with mayonnaise. Sound tastey?
Want to just try the infamous cake, and skip the main dish?:
1) You'll be slapped with a $5.50 penalty (have to order main dish to avoid the fee)
2) The only thing special about the cake is the size. Why not go someplace else, and order two good desserts? Its easy to make a dessert big - tougher to make it well.
As for decor, it neither appeals to adults (too cheesy), nor to children (scary). And its dirty.
Avoid. Seiously. You'll do better anywhere else on the island. -

I have been going to nearby South Seas Resort for over 20 years and The Bubble Room is an absolute must for places we eat. I have eaten there well over 30 times have found the food to be uniformly excellent....we have never had a bad food ITEM, much less a bad meal. The service (Bubble Scouts) has always been good and they have an extremely well-organized kitchen (they do want to turn their tables over, but not to the point of feeling rushed). The atmosphere is unique and I think it is a perfect vacation restaurant. A bit pricey, but not bad considering you are on a resort island. The place does get crowded, so go early or late. Personal favorites: The Eddie Fisherman grouper entree and the Red Velvet Cake for dessert.

A friend & I are thinking of taking our annual spring break to Sarasoga and Siesta Key.
Can you recommend this or would you recommend somewhere else that might have a tropical island feel?
