If you're looking for comfort food—like melt-in-your-mouth buttermilk biscuits—try this refreshing throwback. The kitchen makes fresh muffins daily, in flavors like mango, chocolate, and poppy. Little has changed over the years in this yellow-and-turquoise eatery. Owner Harriette Mattson often personally greets guests who come for steak and eggs with hash browns or old-fashioned hotcakes with sausage or bacon. Stick to simple dishes; the eggs Benedict are a disappointment. At lunchtime, Harriette's shines in the burger department, but there are also hot meals such as chicken-fried steak.

Had breakfast here on my way back up to Miami. Very charming, good, fast, friendly service. Huge biscuits and good-size portions of everything else. Great place to start your day.
