Fodor's Review

The dock points the way to many beautiful sunsets at this no-smoking, adults-only boutique hotel, which Karol Marsden (an ad exec) and her husband Dominic (a travel photographer) have transformed from a run-down mom-and-pop place into a waterfront gem. As you'd expect from innkeepers with a background in the image business, the property offers great visuals, from marble floors and granite countertops to yellow-leather sofas and ice-blue bathroom tiles. Kayaks, barbecue grills, and a movie library are available for guest use, and two chickee huts on the beach are equipped with comfortable seating.

Definitely deserves kudos

My wife and I have stayed here twice now as we escape frigid Chicago. Initially we came based on the advice of the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce lady, but returned because of the consistently high level of service and comfortable accomodation. There is an intangible "quality" feel about everything that goes on here. We tend to hang around the beach most of the day, reading, kayaking, and swimming. The beach is not South Miami, but it's private

and quiet.

Pretty rooms but not much to do

It's a 6 room hotel. The rooms are nice, elegant, the furniture looks expensive, it reminds me of a NYC hotel--but no balconies or pool or hot tub in Florida??? Most hotels in the keys don't have beaches, but over and over in their website they refer to their beach, and swimming--there is definately no swimming from that beach, it is miniscule--we were very disappointed.

great place! no beach :(

Beautiful rooms but don't go to the Keys if you're looking for a beach. Azul's site claims to have a private beach-it's no more than a boat launch covered in sand. Really! Otherwise, it really is a lovely place.

At Azul del Mar you feel like you are at home in paradise

From the moment you enter the grounds of Azul del Mar you feel like you are in your have entered your own waterfront paradise. The grounds are immaculately kept, and the rooms are beautifully furnished with all the amenities you need. Dominic, the owner, is on site and very helpful. My wife and I stayed for 3 nights, and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend that you go snorkeling/diving off the reef, the water is very clear and the fish friendly.

Also take advantage of the hobie cats and kayaks at Azul. There are several very good restaurants close by with choices for all tastes.
