Keys Fisheries Market & Marina

Keys Fisheries Market & Marina Review

From the parking lot, this commercial warehouse flanked by fishing boats and lobster traps barely hints at the restaurant inside. Order at the window outside, pick up your food, then dine at one of the waterfront picnic tables outfitted with rolls of paper towels. The menu is comprised of fresh seafood and a token hamburger and chicken sandwich. A huge lobster Reuben ($15.95) served on thick slices of toasted bread is the signature dish. Other delights include the shrimp burger, very rich whiskey-peppercorn snapper, and the Keys Kombo (broiled or grilled lobster, shrimp, scallops, and mahimahi for $29). There are also sushi and a bar serving beer and wine. Kids like feeding the fish while they wait for their food.

After driving down a dark road, past a boat yard, we began to wonder if we were in the right place. We saw the building and we weren't sure we wanted to eat here. It looked a little sketchy. The parking lot was nearly vacant, but we were there late - 8 PM. They're only open til 9. My grandmother asked some people exiting the building if we were in the right place. They said we were - and told us how delicious their meals had been.

We decided that we did want to eat here. We went up to the window, and were daunted by their ginormous menu. After several minute of discussion, we all decided what to order. When we ordered, the guy at the window asked for a name of a TV show instead of our last name, which we thought was kind of fun. We had the following: Key Lime Scallops (on linguine), Crab Alfredo, Crabcake Sandwich, Chicken Fingers Basket, Coconut Shrimp, Whiskey Peppercorn Snapper, and a Bloomin' Onion. Everything was great. The crabcake, however, was a little too bready for my personal taste.

While waiting for our food (it didn't take long) we fed the tarpon at the dock. Then we picked up our food, and chose a picnic table on the covered dock to enjoy our meal.
