Throughout the Keys, the types of accommodations are remarkably varied, from '50s-style motels to cozy inns to luxurious lodges. Most are on or near the ocean, so water sports reign supreme. Key West's lodging portfolio includes historic cottages, restored Conch houses, and large resorts. Some larger properties throughout the Keys charge a mandatory daily resort fee of $15 or more, which can cover equipment rental, fitness-center use, and other services. Some guesthouses and inns do not welcome children under 16, and many do not permit smoking.
