Miccosukee Restaurant
Miccosukee Restaurant Review
For a taste of culture at breakfast or lunch (or dinner until 9 November-April), this roadside cafeteria a quarter mile from the Miccosukee Indian Village and overlooking the River of Grass, provides the best variety of food along Tamiami Trail in Everglades territory where you won't find all that much choice. Atmosphere comes from the River of Grass view, servers wearing traditional Miccosukee patchwork vests, and a mural depicting American Indian women cooking and men engaged in a powwow. Catfish and frogs' legs are breaded and deep-fried. Other favorites include Indian fry bread and pumpkin bread, but you'll also find burgers, salads, and dishes from south of the border. The Miccosukee Platter ($24.95) offers a sampling of local favorites, including gator bites. Gator Nuggets (slightly larger than gator bites) are $2.25 each.
