Away from downtown but close to Homestead's agricultural attractions, Grove Inn derives much of its personality from co-owner Paul, a former show man. The garden is lush with organic, tropical fruit trees and native plants (instead of a guest book there's a live signature tree in the courtyard, where people sign the leaves), and the rooms are decorated fussily with antique furnishings and table settings. The owners go out of their way to pamper you, starting with a country breakfast using local produce, served family-style in a dining room done in deep Victorian florals. They offer behind-the-scenes tours of orchid nurseries and farms not otherwise open to the public. A vending machine dispenses complimentary cold drinks. Pros: fresh fruit; privacy; delicious breakfast; rural location. Cons: far from downtown and national parks; no restaurants nearby; not suited to families.
