Of downtown Homestead's smattering of mom-and-pop motels, this is the most desirable and has the most character. When it opened in 1904, the inn was the town's first hotel. It later became the first mercantile store, the first post office, the first library, and the first boardinghouse. Today, each room has a different layout and furnishings, and some have access to a shared balcony. The style is Victorian, with lots of pastels and reproduction antique furniture. The pub is popular with locals, and there are good restaurants and antiques shops nearby. A coffee shop-Internet café with free Wi-Fi connections was added in 2006. Pros: historic character; convenient to downtown; well maintained. Cons: traffic noise; small rooms; ugly street location.
