Once you arrive in the park, begin your day by picking up a park map at the this visitor center.Numerous interactive exhibits and films make this center a worthy and important stop during your tour of the region. Stand in a simulated blind and peer through a spyglass to watch birds in the wild; although it's actually a film, the quality is so good you'll think you're outside. Move on to a bank of telephones to hear differing viewpoints on the Great Water Debate. The 15-minute film River of Life shows in the theater, plus there is a movie on hurricanes and a 35-minute wildlife film for children available upon request. A schedule of daily ranger-led activities parkwide and information on canoe rentals and boat tours is kept up to date on the park's Web site. In the Everglades Discovery Shop, browse through cool nature, science, and kids' stuff and pick up extra insect repellent. The Coe Visitor Center is outside the park gates, so you can visit the center without paying park admission fees.
