Fodor's Review:

With 28,900 acres, this outstanding wildlife preserve is absolutely lovely and is great for bird-watching and gator-sighting. Tram tours explore hammocks, airboat tours whiz over the lake, and there are hiking trails and bike rentals. A 100-foot-long canopy walkway gives you a bird's-eye view from 25 feet above ground. If you care to stay awhile, the park rents cabins that have kitchens, fireplaces, and air-conditioning. There's also a campground. Reservations are essential for cabins and camping.

  • Cost: $5 per vehicle up to 8 people; tours $10; cabins $60 per night
  • Open: Daily 8 AM-dusk; boat tours daily at 10, 11:30, 1, and 2:30
