Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

Fodor's Review:

A big draw for kids, this nifty nature center has four huge saltwater tanks brimming with sea life—from coral to stingrays—and a boardwalk through dense forest with a 40-foot tower you can climb to overlook the tree canopy. In spring and early summer, staffers lead nocturnal turtle walks: you can watch nesting females come ashore and lay eggs. (Make sure to purchase tickets in advance.) A great hiking spot, the park has a sturdy boardwalk and a 40-foot observation tower. Spend a little time there and you're likely to see brown pelicans and osprey. Kids love the aquariums, insect tanks, and the butterfly garden.

  • Cost: Free; turtle tours $5
  • Open: Mon.-Sat. 9-4, Sun. noon-4; turtle tours May-July, Mon.-Thurs. 9PM-midnight
