National Croquet Center

Fodor's Review:

The world's largest croquet complex, the 10-acre center is also the headquarters for the U.S. Croquet Association. Vast expanses of manicured lawn are the stage for fierce competitions—in no way resembling the casual backyard games where kids play with wide wire wickets. There's also a clubhouse with a pro shop and Café Croquet, with verandas for dining and viewing, and a museum hall. You have to be a member, or a guest of a member, to reserve a lawn every day but Saturday, when lessons are free and lawns are open to all.

  • Cost: Free admission. Full day of play $25 June-Sept., Oct.-May
  • Open: June-Sept., Tues.-Sat. 9-5; Oct.-May, daily 9-5
