Orlando Sights

Although the small towns around Orlando aren't historic in a European sense, they reflect the early settlers' desire to capitalize on the subtropical climate—much as you and other visitors do today.

To the south lies Kissimmee, a former cattle town on Lake Tohopekaliga, one of Florida's largest, and a good place to go fishing or take an airboat ride. Kissimmee retains its ranching roots,

with a twice-annual rodeo that's worth a visit.

Winter Park, to the northeast, offers a more intellectual look at Florida's past. The town exudes charm, with brick streets and Spanish moss–draped oaks. Park Avenue, the main drag, is lined with unique shops edged by a landscaped park. You can take a leisurely boat tour on waterways that snake through town or visit the large collection of Tiffany glass and other artworks in the Morse Museum of American Art.

To the northwest of Orlando is Mount Dora, built with citrus money in the 19th century. It's on Lake Dora, and the shops and restaurants lining its charming streets often have a water view.
