Fodor's Review

A humble hideaway located near a standard mall, the Smiling Bison is an ambitious gastropub popular with Orlando's locavores. The dining area, heavy on reclaimed woods, feels much like a living room with paintings of musicians. The owners got their start selling homemade sausages from a food cart, and you can still find smoked kielbasa, curry wurst, or other creations in sandwich form. The menu changes weekly, but poutine, a duck pizza, and a bison burger are always on offer. Dinner might be a chicken potpie, ginger-braised pork belly, or housemade papardelle with pork bison ragu. The beer menu caters to a craft-brew-centric crowd, and wines are interesting and reasonably priced. Musicians entertain several nights a week, with no cover charge, and the restaurant hosts jazz dinners every Tuesday night.
