Why We Like It

If you have a crack-of-dawn flight, there's nothing quite so calming as knowing you'll be at check-in five minutes after leaving your hotel room. No traffic worries, no missed-flight terrors. Just a nice cup of coffee and a bun, and Bob's your uncle. On the other side of the clock, there are few things as stressful as arriving from a cruise at 8 a.m. knowing your flight home is not leaving until 12 hours later. The thought of a day spent in an airport waiting room before a trans-Atlantic flight is enough to tempt you to stay another day. But this hotel has day rooms for rent, so you can relax, have a nap, have a drink or a cup of tea and face your long flight with much more enthusiasm.

Fodor's Expert Review

If you have to catch an early-morning flight or have a long layover, this hotel inside the main terminal complex is a very convenient option; counting the time you spend waiting for the elevator, your room is a five-minute walk from the nearest ticket counter. Rooms have views of either the runways or the 10-story-tall terminal atrium; terminal-side rooms have balconies. The hotel has a large pool and fitness center, and for those who suffer from allergies, Hyatt Regency offers hypo-allergenic rooms. Hemisphere, the hotel's upscale restaurant, has an eclectic seasonal menu along with runway views, and there are dozens of fast-food and fine dining options around the huge terminal.

Tip The hotel offers day rooms, which are a great option for families returning in the early morning from a cruise, with an evening flight.

Room

The spacious rooms contain one king or two queen Grand Beds™, with white, duvet style bedding. The décor is contemporary, with a work desk, a refrigerator, 37” flat screen TV, and coffeemaker. Some rooms overlook the runways, so you or the kids can watch the many planes come and go. Others overlook the vast atrium and provide first-class people watching from the balcony.

You Should Know While the work space is generous, there is no ergonomic chair. Also, the purpose of duvet style bedding is so you don't have to touch anything used by a prior guest, except, perhaps, a chair. The piles of decorative pillows on some of the beds negates that whole purpose.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are functional and clean, with a decent sized vanity and shower/tub combination, which has a very handy grab bar.

Lobby

The hotel lobby, on the fourth floor of the hotel, has expansive marble floors, ample check in stations, and a lobby bar for you to have a drink after the stress of finding your way to the lobby.

You Should Know Getting to the lobby can be difficult. You have to enter parking garage B, and look for Hyatt parking signs. People have been known to drive around a few times before finding the entrance.

Pool

Atop the hotel in full view of departing and arriving airplanes, the heated pool has plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. You can order drinks and food items from the room service menu.

Gym

The StayFit™ gym features Life Fitness® Cardio equipment, including treadmills and stationary bikes, plus a quarter-mile rooftop jogging track. Weight training equipment and free weights are also available.

Dining

The hotel itself has three restaurants, plus room service 20-hours a day. Hemisphere Restaurant serves locally sourced foods, international wines, and craft cocktails, all with a view of the runway; McCoy’s Bar & Grill (the name harks back to the days when this airport was McCoy Air Force Base) in the lobby offers American fare, sushi and other seafood, and also a healthy kids menu. The Lobby Bar has small plates for quick service if you are waiting for a flight.

Drinking

The Lobby Bar serves cocktails, craft beers, and wine; McCoy's serves local craft beers on tap, and Hemisphere has a great wine list.

Outback Steakhouse (10-minute walk) in the Delta Airlines section of the airport offers its usual steaks and Bloomin' Onions.
