Central Florida Art
There are a surprising number of world-class art museums in Central Florida—from Orlando and Winter Park to St. Petersburg and Sarasota; from sublime stained glass to surrealist paintings and folk art to circus folk.
Mennello Museum of American Folk Art, Orlando. The Mennello holds the nation's most extensive permanent collection of Earl Cunningham paintings, as well as pieces by many other "outsider" artists. Works by Wyeth, Cassatt, Eastman, and others have made their Central Florida debuts here.
Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, Winter Park. Known as the "Tiffany museum," the galleries contain the largest and most comprehensive collection of art by Louis Comfort Tiffany, including stained-glass windows and lamps, blown-glass vases, and gem-studded jewelry.
Salvador Dalí Museum, St. Petersburg. Built upon the collection of an Ohio industrialist, this is the world's most comprehensive gathering of oils, watercolors, drawings, sculptures, photographs, and objets d'art by the Spanish surrealist. The museum moved into a new, Dalí-inspired building in 2011.
FSU Ringling Center for the Cultural Arts, Sarasota. This artistic compound stars the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and the Ringling Circus Museum. Classical masters of art share space with sideshow memorabilia. Don’t miss the enchanting scale model of a 1920s Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
