On 1,500 acres just outside Disney's north entrance, this spectacular resort has a private lake, three golf courses, and miles of trails for bicycling, jogging, and horseback riding. The 800,000-gallon pool has a 45-foot slide and is fed by 12 waterfalls. Tropical birds and plants and Chinese sculptures fill the 18-story atrium. All rooms have tasteful rattan furniture and a private balcony overlooking either the Lake Buena Vista Area or the pool. Villas have fireplaces and whirlpool baths. Accommodations are divided between the hotel and the Villas of Grand Cypress (1 N. Jacaranda Dr., Lake Buena Vista, 32836. 407/239-1234 or 800/835-7377), with 200 villas. Pros: great Sunday brunch at La Coquina; huge pool; lots of recreation options, including nearby equestrian center. Cons: pricey; inconvenient to Universal Orlando and downtown Orlando.

This hotel is nice, but not wonderful. It is an average hotel set among very nice grounds.
The food is okay, and that really describes just about every aspect of the hotel.
