Running in Orlando-Disney World

Running

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World has several scenic running trails. Pick up maps at any Disney resort. Early in the morning all the roads are fairly uncrowded and make for good running. The roads that snake through Downtown Disney resorts are pleasant, as are the cart paths on the golf courses.

At the Caribbean Beach Resort (407/934-3400), there's a 1 1/2-mi running promenade around Barefoot Bay. Fort Wilderness Campground (407/824-2900) has a 2 1/3-mi running course with woods, as well as numerous exercise stations along the way.

Orlando Area

Orlando has two excellent bike trails, the West Orange Trail and the Cady Way Trail, which are also good for running. Rural Orlando has some unbelievable hiking trails with long, densely wooded, nonrocky stretches that are tremendous for running, and often you can run for a half hour and not see any other living being -- except wild game.

Turkey Lake Park, about 4 mi from Disney, has a 3-mi biking trail that's popular with runners. Several wooded hiking trails also make for a good run. The park closes at 5 PM, and fees are $4 per car. 3401 S. Hiawassee Rd., Orlando. 407/299-5581.
