When a Jacksonville restaurant can make Angelinos feel like they haven't left home, that's saying a lot. With its slick black-leather booths, 1940s brick work, velvet drapes, and intricate marbled globes, Bistro Aix (pronounced "X") is just that place. Regulars can't get enough of the creamy onion soup, crispy calamari, and house-made potato chips with warm blue-cheese appetizers or entrées like oak-fired fish Aixoise, grilled salmon, and filet mignon. (Diners on a budget may want to stop by for lunch or try a wood-fired pizza for dinner.) Aix's resident pastry chef ensures no sweet tooth leaves unsatisfied. For the most part, waitstaff are knowledgeable and pleasant, though some patrons find their demeanor snooty, except, of course, the ones from L.A. Call for preferred seating.

I can't disagree with the previous reviewer more. Chef Tom was nominated for the regional James Beard Chef award. The food is outstanding. We sit at the Chef's tasting table (actually more like sitting at a bar). The attention to detail of each dish is surprising, we watched each dish prepared that evening.
The menu is creative and the flavors are layered together to maximize enjoyment. Our favorite in JAX!

Tables are too close together; waitstaff is snobbish and prices are inflated. This is not among our "to do" dining establishments in JAX. One can do much better elsewhere and have individuals wait on you who actually seem to care.
