The ocean, St. Johns River, and numerous lakes and smaller rivers are teeming with fish, and so, naturally, seafood dominates local menus. In coastal towns, catches are often from the restaurant's own fleet. Shrimp, snapper, swordfish, and grouper are prevalent. Northeast Florida also boasts a variety of award-winning upscale restaurants, ethnic eateries, and more barbecue joints than you can shake a hickory chip at.
