Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is the main hub in the area with service to and from all major cities by the major carriers. Daytona Beach International (DAB) and Gainesville Regional (GNV) are smaller operations with fewer flights but may be more convenient in certain travel situations. Although Orlando isn't part of the area, visitors to northeastern Florida often choose to arrive at Orlando International Airport (MCO) since cheaper flights are often available; however, the headache isn't always worth the savings. Driving east from Orlando on the Beeline Expressway brings you to Cocoa Beach in about an hour; to reach Daytona from Orlando, take the Beeline Expressway to Interstate 95 and drive north for about two hours.
A welcome center with information on local attractions, including St. Augustine and Amelia Island, is located on the ground floor of Jacksonville International Airport at the foot of the escalator near baggage claim. It is open daily 9 AM-10 PM.
Amtrak (800/872-7245. www.amtrak.com)) schedules stops in Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, DeLand, Waldo (near Gainesville), Ocala, and Palatka. The Auto Train carries cars between Sanford (25 mi north of Orlando) and Lorton, Virginia (just south of Washington, D.C.) Schedules vary depending on the season. Greyhound Lines (800/231-2222. www.greyhound.com)) serves the region, with full-service terminals in Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Gainesville, Melbourne, Ocala, St. Augustine, and Titusville.
